“Speak a New Language so that the world will be a new world.” - Rumi
Marilyn Walter, a contemporary artist was born in the sun-drenched city of Bakersfield, California. Her early life, however, unfolded amidst the rich tapestries of Kuwait and Iran, where her family resided. This multicultural upbringing instilled a deep-seated wanderlust and igniting a lifelong passion for exploration and artistic expression. She is currently residing and working in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Walter's life is a tapestry of varied experiences. Moving to the buzzing cultural hive of New York City marked a pivotal chapter, reconnecting her with academia and reigniting her artistic journey. It was at Fairleigh Dickinson University, NJ, that a fortuitous mentorship acquainted her with the energy of New York's gallery scene, deeply influencing her artistic evolution. Walter continued her art education pursuits by attending Bank Street/Parsons, NYC and several Summer Residency Programs at the School of Visual Arts, NYC. In West Palm Beach, FL she has facilitated a series of collaborative art projects and taught sketching and watercolor workshops at Mounts Botanical Garden, West Palm Beach, FL.
Community Arts and Professional support are both integral to her art career and education. Walter was a Resident with the Makor/Steinhardt Center, NYC, a team member of the Social Engagement HomeBase IV Project, NYC, and Artist in Resident at The Hacklab, Boynton Beach, FL. In 2021, she was nominated assistant curator for the Captured DBA Exhibition, ArtServe, FL.
Walter is currently completing a new portfolio, Searching For A Place To Rest My Head At Night... I'll Meet You There, incorporating a series of landscapes from Texas, Long Island City, New York City, West Palm Beach, and Miami.

SEARCHING FOR A PLACE TO REST MY HEAD AT NIGHT ... I'LL MEET YOU THERE
PEOPLE, PLACES, SITUATIONS & EVENTS
My works are an ode to my nomadic life, shaped by the thirty-one cities I have called home, nineteen of those alongside my partner. It is the spontaneous, the ephemeral, and the ever-changing landscape of human existence that inspires my art.
My creative process is as fluid as my life has been, producing intimate works on handmade paper. Using photographs taken during my wanderings, I apply acrylic gouache and pencil to paint the world as I perceive it: filled with intriguing shapes, textures, and unchartered spaces. The decision to work on a small scale stems from my appreciation for the portable nature of Persian miniatures and Russian icons-art that could follow my transient existence and be shared intimately amongst viewers.
I pride myself on the unique interplay between my chosen materials. The unpredictability of handmade paper paired with gouache encourages a relinquishment of control, permitting spontaneity to guide the artistic process. This embrace of chance infuses each piece with an organic authenticity.
I remain committed to exploring the intricate interplay between place and identity-a visual diary of the incessant motion of life. Art is a lifetime endeavor, a reflection of a perpetual journey through an ever-evolving world, with each piece a testament to my quest for understanding and belonging.
