people watching
As a woman I am always searching for my place in the world. With today’s social media I am intrigued by what women are sharing publicly with others. Watching them from afar, from the outside. I investigate their intimate conversations mentioned with changing faces in photographs, their hopes, dreams, and thoughts incorporating these into my creative process. All of my portraits are of people I have met or related to. Whether the images selected are seen through a mother’s lens or another’s self portrait each momentary impression tells us about their character. Leaving a lasting impression.
My portraits capture how we portray ourselves when we share the everyday in our postings. Private moments taken from Instagram or Facebook acquaintances in turn become collaborative artistic exchanges that develop into lasting friendships. These insightful moments caught by my iPhone or iPad are transformed into contemporary stories, turning temporary images into permanent physical portraits. My work encompasses a wide range of materials using unconventional materials, such as surfer traction pads, burnt wood pieces, broken mirror/glass, and doormat/carpet remnants.
MY WORK SEEKS TO ENGAGE THE IMAGINATION, CREATING A SENSE OF WHO WE ARE OR WHERE WE MIGHT BE GOING.
